Visitor/Tourist Visa

Whether you're planning a vacation, visiting family, attending a business event, or just exploring the Great White North, a Canada Visitor Visa (also called a Temporary Resident Visa or TRV) is your gateway to experience one of the most beautiful and welcoming countries in the world.

At Reliant Travel, we make the process simple, stress-free, and successful—here’s how it works.

Step-by-Step Guide to Applying for a Canada Visitor Visa

1. Determine If You Need a Visitor Visa

Canada requires most foreign nationals to obtain a Visitor Visa (TRV) to enter the country. Some countries are visa-exempt and may only require an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization).

You need a Visitor Visa if:

  • Your country is not visa-exempt

  • You’re planning to visit for up to 6 months

  • You want to visit family, attend a wedding, go sightseeing, or handle business

Reliant Tip: Not sure if you need a visa or an eTA? We’ll check for you.

2. Gather Required Documents

A strong application starts with a complete and well-prepared set of documents. The requirements may vary slightly depending on your country of residence and purpose of visit.

General requirements:

  • Valid passport

  • Proof of ties to your home country (job, property, family, etc.)

  • Travel itinerary or invitation letter (if visiting family/friends)

  • Proof of funds for your stay

  • Two passport-sized photos

  • Purpose of visit letter

  • Travel history (if applicable)

For family visits:

  • Invitation letter from your host in Canada

  • Copy of host’s PR card, citizenship certificate, or visa

3. Complete Your Visa Application

Applications are submitted online through the IRCC Portal. You’ll need to:

  • Create an account

  • Fill out the visa application form

  • Upload all documents

  • Pay the application and biometrics fees

Reliant Tip: We handle the entire online process for you, ensuring no errors or missed information.

4. Submit Biometrics

Most applicants are required to provide biometrics—fingerprints and a photo—at a local Visa Application Centre (VAC) after submitting their application. You’ll receive a Biometrics Instruction Letter (BIL) shortly after applying.

5. Wait for Processing and Decision

Processing times depend on where you're applying from and current IRCC workloads. On average, Visitor Visa decisions take 2–8 weeks, but it can vary.

During this time, IRCC may:

  • Request additional documents

  • Schedule an interview

  • Verify your ties to your home country

6. Receive Your Visa

If your application is approved, a Visitor Visa sticker will be placed in your passport. This allows you to travel to Canada and seek entry at the border.

You must:

  • Enter Canada before the visa expiry date

  • Prove your intention to leave after your stay

  • Abide by the conditions of your visa
