Citizenship

Becoming a Canadian citizen is more than just a legal change—it's a powerful commitment to a country known for freedom, opportunity, and multicultural harmony. If you’ve lived in Canada as a permanent resident and are ready to take the next step, the citizenship process is your pathway to full belonging.

At Reliant Travel, we help you make this final transition with confidence, clarity, and care.

Step-by-Step Guide to Applying for Canadian Citizenship

1. Check Your Eligibility

Before you apply, make sure you meet the basic criteria for Canadian citizenship. You may be eligible if:

✅ You are a permanent resident of Canada
✅ You’ve lived in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 years (1,095 days)
✅ You’ve filed your taxes (if required)
✅ You meet language requirements (if aged 18–54)
✅ You pass the Canadian Citizenship Test (if aged 18–54)
✅ You have no prohibitions (criminal issues, removal orders, etc.)

Reliant Tip: Unsure if you qualify yet? We’ll calculate your physical presence and guide you through any missing steps.

2. Gather Your Documents

You’ll need to provide official documents that prove your eligibility. These typically include:

  • Permanent Resident (PR) Card or Record of Landing

  • Travel history (passports, entry/exit records)

  • Language proof (IELTS/CLB scores, education in English/French)

  • Tax documents (Notices of Assessment)

  • Personal ID and photographs

Reliant Tip: We create a personalized document checklist for you, so nothing is missed or misplaced.

3. Complete Your Citizenship Application

You can apply online or by paper application through the IRCC portal. You’ll need to:

  • Fill out the citizenship application form

  • Upload or attach all documents

  • Pay the application fee ($630 for adults, $100 for minors)

We assist with every part of this process—reviewing forms, checking documents, and ensuring a complete and professional submission.

4. Submit and Await Acknowledgement

After applying, you’ll receive an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) confirming your file is in progress. From this point, IRCC will begin reviewing your application.

5. Prepare for the Citizenship Test & Interview

If you're between 18–54 years old, you’ll need to take the Canadian Citizenship Test—a multiple-choice exam covering Canadian history, values, government, geography, and symbols.

You may also be invited for:

  • A citizenship interview

  • A language skills assessment

We provide:

  • Study guides and practice tests

  • One-on-one prep sessions

  • Interview tips and mock sessions

6. Receive a Decision

Once all checks are complete, you’ll receive a citizenship decision. If approved, you’ll be invited to attend a citizenship ceremony—the final step in your journey.

7. Take the Oath and Become a Canadian Citizen

At your ceremony, you’ll take the Oath of Citizenship and officially become a Canadian citizen. You’ll receive your citizenship certificate and can now apply for a Canadian passport, vote in elections, and enjoy full rights and responsibilities as a Canadian.
